The Social Health Authority (SHA) has rolled out a new system to help Kenyans claim refunds for premiums mistakenly paid to the authority via M-Pesa.
This initiative aims to streamline the refund process, ensuring accountability and improving customer service as part of SHA's ongoing commitment to transparency and efficient handling of health insurance transactions.
In the public notice, the authority outlined the necessary steps for individuals who have inadvertently made incorrect premium payments. To facilitate the refund, claimants must submit three documents: a copy of the M-Pesa statement reflecting the erroneous payment, a copy of a National ID, Alien ID, or passport, and a signed letter addressed to SHA’s CEO, requesting the refund.
To make this process as convenient as possible for members, SHA has set up several channels for document submission. Claimants can either email scanned copies of the required documents to [email protected] or [email protected] or drop off the original documents at any SHA County Office or Huduma Center nationwide.
Mercy Mwangangi, the CEO of SHA, highlighted the importance of submitting clear and readable documents to expedite the refund process. "Ensure all documents are clear and legible. Refunds will only be processed after verification of the submitted details," she said.
The public notice also encourages members to seek assistance from SHA’s customer service or visit the nearest office for help with any challenges they may encounter.
Additionally, SHA’s toll-free number, 147, is available for further support.
This move is part of SHA’s broader strategy to foster stronger collaborations with healthcare providers and ensure proper management of funds under the Bima Bora and Afya Nyumbani programs.
By establishing a straightforward system for refund requests, SHA aims to enhance service delivery and boost public trust in the health insurance system.
For more details, SHA urges members to visit their official website at www.sha.go.ke or go to their Nairobi office on Ragati Road for further guidance on refund procedures.
This transparent and accessible process reflects SHA’s dedication to upholding the integrity of the health insurance scheme and making sure that all contributors receive the services and refunds they are entitled to.
